Neese Law Firm Files Product Defect Lawsuit for Victim of Coleman Stove Explosion

On January 8, 2010, the Neese Law Firm, PC of Houston, Texas filed a personal injury lawsuit on behalf of a Texas man who suffered 2nd degree burns in a camping stove explosion and fire. The lawsuit was brought against The Coleman Company of Wichita, Kansas, manufacturer of the Coleman Xpedition Stove and Powermax fuel canister involved in the explosion.
According to the lawsuit, a defect in the fuel canister and/or stove connection caused the fuel canister to explode, spewing a mix of propane and butane on the victim before catching fire and burning him. The victim, who was on a camping trip with his wife, had to be airlifted to the burn unit at Brook Army Medical Center where he underwent treatment.
“What’s worse is that this is not an isolated event,” said the victim’s attorney, John Neese.
According to Christina Hogue of the Neese Law Firm, Coleman's Director, Product Safety & Compliance was at the Neese Law Firm offices to inspect the stove and canister from the camping explosion. During that inspection, another fuel Powermax fuel canister exploded. Although the Neese Law Firm offices had to be emergency evacuated, fortunately nobody was injured.
“The Coleman Company has a lot of explaining to do and I look forward to taking the deposition of their product safety engineer,” said Neese. “We need to make sure that whatever the problem is, it gets fixed before anyone else gets hurt. We are asking anyone who has had a problem with these Coleman products to contact us at 713.355.1200,” said Neese.
